If there’s one bash where you’re guaranteed a decent canapé, it’s the GQ Food & Drinks Awards – which is partly why we were especially thrilled to be asked back to handle the soundtrack for the 2016 edition.
On 26 April, we took to the sound system at Soho’s nightlife icon 100 Wardour Street to set the scene for a night of gastronomic celebration, as the luminaries of the British culinary scene came to gather their gongs. We were particularly proud to see a number of Music Concierge clients on the nominations list, including Claridges, (up for the Best Bar award); Cahoots and The Ivy (both in the running for Best Interior); and Rosewood London (setting its sights on Best Hotel).
For us, the exciting part of the challenge wasn’t just creating an audio atmosphere that would animate the event and delight the renowned chefs, sommeliers and restaurateurs in attendance, but also crafting an evening of music that lived up to the legacy of the venue. 100 Wardour Street was once the home of Soho’s legendary Marquee Club, where the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and pretty much everyone with an entry in the history of British rock played at one time or another. at gave us both a fantastic well of inspiration, and a hell of a lot to live up to.
We’re extremely relieved to say we pulled it off. And, yes, the canapés were fab.
