How to get AHEAD in hospitality

How to get AHEAD in hospitality

Sleeper magazine’s Awards for Hospitality, Experience and Design continues its world tour…

Last month, every hotel in the Americas worth its interior-design bill arrived in Miami for the US leg of AHEAD – the Awards for Hospitality, Experience and Design launched by Sleeper magazine this year. Intended to celebrate the best of the best on the international hotel scene, the awards cover every facet of contemporary hospitality – from bars, restaurants and spas, to new accommodation concepts and visual identities.

Held in the architecturally spectacular environs of the Peréz Art Museum, the event was as glitzily atmospheric as you’d imagine, given the calibre of the contenders (and, we humbly suggest, the Music Concierge soundtrack). Check out the event film to get a feel for the vibe, and read the full winners list here.

What makes AHEAD a little different from other hotel awards out there is that they don’t just pay lip service to the notion of international scope. The Miami bash was one of four regional events scheduled for 2017. The Asia awards ceremony took place at the Capitol Theatre in Singapore back in March (winners here); and MEA and Europe’s events are still to come this November.

But even after those celebrations die down, the awards aren’t over. AHEAD isn’t just a series of regional contests – it’s a full, two-year international hotel tournament. In January 2019, the winners of each regional event in 2017 and 2018 will go head to head for the Global Biennale, when the ultimate international winners in each of the 13 award categories will be announced. And that will be a party worth attending.

We’re currently putting playlists together for the Dubai edition on 15 November at the city’s W Hotel, and for the London event at the Park Plaza Hotel on the 20th. Make sure you let us know if you’re going along to either.
